Acronis Backup, Drive Snapshot, or the AUVESY Image Service?

“When should I use Acronis Backup?”

We recommend choosing this option if you already have a licensed version of Acronis that is in wide use across the board. If you do not yet have an Acronis license, please be aware that you will need to purchase it and that the installation process for Acronis may be time-consuming.

versiondog allows you to create jobs, which can then be used to schedule the automatic creation of Acronis images using the existing network infrastructure, in addition to securing the data of multiple PCs in parallel. The secured data is then stored in the designated file structure of your Acronis project.

The creation, configuration, and management of jobs directly via Acronis is no longer necessary. Backup jobs from the Acronis Backup Management Server can be imported via a special tool provided by AUVESY.

“When should I use Drive Snapshot?”

We recommend choosing this option if you already have a licensed version of Drive Snapshot that is in wide use across the board. If you do not yet have a Drive Snapshot license, please be aware you will need to purchase it and that the installation process for Drive Snapshot may be time-consuming. versiondog allows you to create jobs, which can then be used to schedule the automatic creation of Drive Snapshot images. These images can then be stored on an external network drive or in the server archive.

If you are using an operating system which is not supported by versiondog (e.g. Windows NT), you will require Drive Snapshot PsExec in order to create images.

To configure jobs in order to create images, you will need to activate the scripting function on the versiondog server, establish a connection to Drive Snapshot and PsExec, and configure an upload agent. You can also use special Drive Snapshot command lines to do this.

“When should I use the AUVESY Image Service?”

We recommend choosing this option if you do not yet have a licensed image creation software in place and if you want to carry out image creation directly via versiondog. This will make it possible to create and manage images of your PCs in your versiondog system.

The AUVESY Image Service allows you to create jobs, which can then be used to create images according to a scheduled time interval. These images can then be stored in a designated location in the network. A link to each image is provided in the versiondog backup if the backup is not located directly
in versiondog.

In addition to creating images using similar technology to that of Drive Snapshot, the AUVESY Image Service also provides information about the PC, the status, and the capacity of the drive that you want to create an image of.

If changes to the hardware of the PC are detected during a scheduled job creation, a warning will appear, warning that the older images should not be used for the new PC (due to compatibility reasons). This information can be used for preventive maintenance regarding PCs at your company.

The AUVESY Image Service allows you to create images on one or more PCs directly, remotely, or via a
software distribution tool. The AUVESY Image Service is available as a monthly subscription from AUVESY.
